ADL: Nike Ad is Not anti-Semitic [VIDEO]

The Anti-Defamation League has dismissed the notion that Nike’s latest World Cup ad is anti-Jewish

Nike released its newest ad campaign the other day, much to the chagrin of one member of Israel’s Knesset, who claimed the video is anti-Semitic.

As you will see below, the video depicts a group of clones (who stand behind a six-point symbol) which take over soccer err.. football… and rid it of all its fun, intensity and energy.

As the clones are clearly the antagonists in the campaign, MK Shimon Ohayon of the Yisrael Beytenu party denounced the ad as anti-Semitic, saying that it was clearly depicting Jews as the villains throughout the video.

Which is a bit of a stretch….

Now, the Anti-Defamation League have chimed in, and, contrary to what you’d expect actually, have dismissed the notion that the new ad encourages anti-Semitism or anti-Zionism.

“Anyone who thinks this is anti-Semitism is certainly off base,” said an ADL spokesperson in an official statement “You can put anything in a configuration of six. Just because it appears to look like the Star of David, it does not mean it is.”

Valid point.

“You really have to use your imagination to believe there was ill intent here,” added the ADL spokesperson. “Imputing hateful or anti-Semitic intent only undermines our ability to combat and confront actual anti-Semitism.”

Ohayon said that the Internet ad, released on Monday in anticipation of World Cup 2014 – which begins tonight in Brazil with the home squad squaring off against Croatia – uses anti-Semitism in “a subtle fashion” and uses the six-point symbol “to transmit anti-Semitic messages.”

Watch the ad below. Do YOU think it’s anti-Semitic?
