All-Female Orthodox Jewish Rock Group To Play Women-Only Show in New York

Bulletproof Stockings are not permitting men into the building during their performance.

An all-female, all-Hasid rock band has done what most bands probably avoid – they’ve managed to ban men completely for their upcoming concert.

Despite being in a rock band, the members of Bulletproof Stockings have some strict modesty rules they follow just like other Hasidic Women. Showing elbows or knees are among a few of the unacceptable things on their lists, including no mixed-gender socializing. Their faith is a large part of the reason why men are banned from their concert at Arlene’s Grocery on the Lower East Side as well, seeing as how men are not allowed to hear women sing.

However, as Bulletproof Stockings is slowly becoming more and more popular and public, how long can they avoid performing for a mixed-gender crowd? One would think that eliminating one half of your possible audience would leave venues half-empty and sales half-down. Surprisingly, this was not the case for Bulletproof Stockings as members Dalia Shusterman and Perl Wolfe actually walked the streets looking for women to attend and fill out the venue.

“Turning away half the audience isn’t something that’s ever been done. They had to really think about it,” Shusterman told the New York Post, referring to the venue’s decision to book them.

Interestingly, the set is also being filmed for a reality show called Living Different that will be featured on the Oxygen Network.
