Comedian Gary Vider appeared on Conan O’Brien the other day and had a good bit of fun making light of Birthright Israel, the program that sends thousands of Jewish youth to Israel on an enlightening and educational experience.

They’ve also recently added a new portion, Birthright Excel, which will see select Jewish students from the Diaspora interning within Israel’s busiest industries.

“There’s a program that sends Jewish people to Israel for free but before they send anyone, they put you through a screening process to make sure you’re Jewish,” Vider began. “And they’ll ask you questions. First question they asked me: ‘Are you Jewish?’ I was like, “I’m trying to get a free trip, aren’t I? They were like, ‘no further questions.”

Vider’s joke proved a hit with the audience, and he added that “There are perks to being Jewish. I got to go to Israel for free. That’s a good perk.”

It sure is.
