Boycott Israel Supporters Learn They’ve Been Supporting Israel All Along, by Using Wix

A new report reveals that many members of the BDS movement against Israel build their websites using Israeli-based Wix

This may very well be the perfect representation of the word irony.

A few months ago, Shalom Life featured an affluent website-building company called Wix, speaking to Wix’s Chief Marketing Officer, Omer Shai, on one of the earlier editions of Startup Club, highlighting Jewish entrepreneurship from various places around the world.

Then a few weeks ago, the company filed for an IPO, which valued them at approximately $760 million, and raised $127 million in the process. Wix is currently selling at $16.50 a share on the NASDAQ

I’m sure you’ve seen that popular TV commercial around, too.

Now, in a remarkably ironic turn of events, a new report from the Algemeiner suggests that Wix certainly has become one of the go-to website developers; I mean they’d have to be if even members of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel are using the site.

Paul Charney, chairman of the UK’s Zionist Federation (ZF), has revealed that after a recent investigation, ZF has found that a number of websites aligned with the BDS movement against Israel (where certain rhetoric is used to promote a boycott of all Israeli cultural goods, businesses, services, companies, etc.) were actually made on the popular Tel Aviv-based website platform, Wix.

Oh, the irony.

ZF also found that the ‘Students for Justice in Palestine’ group based out of Cornell University, who have campaigned to boycott Israeli skincare products, soft drink manufacturers, and even hummus, are one of those groups using the Israeli-based Wix. It seems like supporting Israeli foods is a no-no, but as anyone out of Startup Nation will tell you, it’s becoming almost impossible to avoid Israel’s booming hightech industry.

The ‘Students for Justice in Palestine’ group’s ‘Palestinian Holocaust Museum’ was also reportedly built with Wix.

“The misguided BDS campaign to ostracize Israel has hit another snag,” said Charney. Supporters of the BDS movement now “find that living without the benefits of the Start-Up Nation might not be as easy as they’d hoped. Supporters of peace should be pleased, since boycotting Israel does nothing to help the two sides reconcile,” he added.

Approximately 40 million users around the world use Wix.
