Infamous Sony Hacker Takes Job at Facebook
Sony recently sued Hotz after the 21-year-old developed the first-ever software that allowed him to unlock the iPhone before jailbreaking the Playstation 3 console.
Two months ago, Sony was awarded a restraining order against Hotz. Additionally, a California court ordered Hotz to hand over all his computer equipment to Sony, and made him agree to never again publish secret codes used by Sony to protect the PS3 from being used for unauthorized purposes.
Sony also announced that they intend to seek damages from Hotz, claiming that his publication of certain “jailbreak codes” led to PS3 sales dropping.
Sony’s decision to sue the hacker aggravated both fellow hackers and gamers. This media attention transformed Hotz into a hero of sorts, eventually leading to the job offer from Facebook. According to TechUnwrapped, Hotz is currently working for Facebook on a top-secret iPad application.
Joshua Hill, a Chronic-Dev Team member, discovered that Hotz has accepted this unlikely position after he opted out of an upcoming iPad 2 hacking challenge due to contractual obligations with the famed social network.
A posting on Hotz’s Facebook page last week read: “Facebook is really an amazing place to work… first hackathon over.”
