In a tense interview on Thursday between CNN’s Jake Trapper and former Palestine Liberation Organization spokesperson Diana Buttu, who is currently a legal adviser, Trapper starts off by asking Buttu a question that remains unanswered for the entirety of the video: “Why is Hamas launching rockets into Israeli population centers and are any other Palestinians trying to stop them from doing so?”

Buttu, instead, goes into a series of points that could be disputed: that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has requested a ceasefire (which he has not), and that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made it clear that he does not want a ceasefire.

To be clear, the IDF have stated that there can be no ceasefire until Hamas stops firing rockets into Israel.

Buttu also suggest that this entire ordeal began after the three Israeli teens were kidnapped – when actually, Operation Protective Edge began after Gaza launched over 150 rockets into Israel.

Tapper, unabated, tells Buttu he’s glad she brought out her “talking points there,” but returns to his preliminary question.

“The Israelis aren’t interested in brokering a ceasefire,” she responds, going on to call it a one-sided war. She also shrugs off the “8000 rockets” that have been fired into Israel from Gaza over the past decade.

The interview then goes into a conversation of Palestinian civilians who have died since this conflict began.

“We have video of the Hamas spokesman on television telling people to stay in their homes, that it’s an effective way to make sure, to fight off the Israelis. That’s not racist. That’s just a fact,” Tapper said. He then explains the Palestinian culture of “martyrdom” which has been encouraged by Hamas, to which Buttu calls “offensive.”

“There is a culture of martyrdom we hear about all the time. The horrific incident of [murdered Arab teen] Mohammed Khdeir being killed and the three Israelis being killed, whoever killed the three Israelis will have streets named after them and get money from Hamas and outside groups for killing the Israelis,” says Trapper.
