The Public Broadcasting Service will be presenting seven films and documentaries in honour of this year’s Holocaust Remembrance Week in the U.S., running Apr. 11-18.

Films include the British version of The Diary of Anne Frank on Apr. 11, sponsored in part by the Jewish Federations of North America. British actress Ellie Kendrick, who appeared as one of the young school girls in An Education, stars as Anne. The other films include Among the Righteous, which follows historian and writer Robert Satloff in his quest to unearth instances in which Arabs protected their Jewish neighbours from Hitler’s Afrika Corps Blessed is the Match, the story of Hannah Senesh and Worse Than War, a documentary that brings to light the millions of civilians who have been killed in genocides in Turkey, China, Cambodia, and more, and tries to find a solution for future “eliminationism” – his preferred term.

Some stations will also carry two more documentaries: Holy Lands: Jerusalem & The West Bank and House of Life: The Old Jewish Cemetery in Prague. Finally, there is the cinematic version of a recent London stage musical, Imagine This, that offers a play-within-a-play connecting the Masada rebellion with Jewish resistance during the Holocaust.
