'The Chosen' Gets New Theatre Adaptation
Chaim Potok’s classic story about two Jewish boys growing up in Brooklyn during the 1940s is getting yet another stage adaptation.
Originally written as a book, The Chosen was published in 1967. The story was made into a movie with Academy Award-winning actor Rod Steiger in 1981. The Chosen was also adapted into a short-lived Off-Broadway musical during the late ‘80s.
Aaron Posner, who adapted the book for the new play, told Oregon Live that he spoke to Potok before the author died in 2002. Potok even wrote new sections for the play, according to Posner.
Directed by Chris Coleman, The Chosen runs until May 2 at the Gerding Theater in Portland.
