TIFF Announces New Galas and Special Presentations

The Toronto International Film Festival has announced the addition of two new galas and 18 special presentations. A number of Jewish actors are featured in the films, including James Franco and Jennifer Connelly.

Last Night has been selected as the closing night film. The movie tells the story of a married couple who spend a night apart after the husband takes a business trip with an attractive colleague. It stars Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley and Eva Mendes.

The anticipated new Danny Boyle flick 127 Hours will be screened at the festival as well. Boyle is the director of the critically acclaimed Slumdog Millionaire. The film premiered at TIFF and went on to win eight Academy Awards. His latest movie, 127 Hours, focuses on mountain climber Aaron Ralston’s (James Franco) adventure to save his life after a fallen boulder crashes on his arm, trapping him in a Utah canyon.

Clint Eastwood will also be premiering his new film Hereafter at the festival. His movie tells the story of three people haunted by mortality in very different ways. The movie stars Matt Damon as a blue-collar American with a special connection to the afterlife.

I’m Still Here, Casey Affleck’s directorial debut, will premiere at TIFF. The movie portrays a tumultuous year in the life of Oscar-nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix. The film follows Phoenix as he announces his retirement from his film career.
