Dancap Announces New Subscription Series
Dancap president Aubrey Dan has announced Dancap’s 2011 Subscription Series, which will feature the Canadian premiere of five Broadway musicals. The series will also include The Lincoln Center Theater production of South Pacific.
In addition to South Pacific, the new series will feature 9 to 5: The Musical, based on the movie with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, Next to Normal, which won a pulitzer prize for drama along with three Tony Awards, Come Fly Away (Twyla Tharp's celebration of Frank Sinatra’s music), The Adams Family, a new musical, and Memphis, winner of the 2010 Tony Award for Best Musical.
“At Dancap we are committed to presenting the very best in Broadway musical theatre and providing a captivating theatrical experience for Toronto audiences,” said Aubrey Dan in a statement. “For 2011, we have strived to find a great mix of productions that showcase the very best of Broadway from traditional musicals to those on the leading edge. We are also very proud to present South Pacific at the Toronto Centre for the Arts, and to continue our summer residency at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts.”
The Lincoln Center’s Theater Production of Richard Rodgers & Oscar Hammerstein’s South Pacific returns to Toronto by popular demand. The award-winning musical will kick start the subscribing series, beginning in February 2011. The show will be staged at the Toronto Centre for the Arts.
Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5: The Musical will premiere in Canada in June, followed by Next to Normal, Come Fly Away and The Adams Family. Memphis will be closing Dancap’s 2011 Subscription Series.
