French singer Vanessa Paradis and long-time boyfriend, Johnny Depp will not be visiting Israel after all. The chanteuse cancelled her scheduled February 10th performance at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Centre, "due to professional reasons", as reported in a press release by her management. Paradis was also set to meet President Shimon Peres whilst in the country.

The February 10th concert was part of a wider tour, but the Israel show was the only cancelled date, leading to speculation that Paradis was influenced by pressure from Palestinian solidarity organizations. After the event had been announced, the international movement advocating boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel because of its treatment of the Palestinians, apparently contacted the singer demanding she cancel the concert. A letter from movement organizers stated that "despite international law, Israel is free of punishment… discriminating against its Arab citizens. Due to this situation, BDS calls upon French singer Vanessa Paradis to cancel her performance in Israel, for as long as this country doesn't work to change its policy."

The 37-year-old singer/actress has released 10 albums in her native France, and broke out with an international hit “Joe Le Taxi” in 1987 at the tender age of 14. Paradis has been in a 12 year relationship with superstar Johnny Depp- they have two children together. Other celebrities had intended to accompany the couple on their trip to Israel, including French actress Isabelle Adjani, and fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.
