James Franco and Mila Kunis Join Cast of Oz prequel
James Franco and Mila Kunis are confirmed to star in Oz, The Great and Powerful.
Walt Disney Pictures has officially confirmed that James Franco and Mila Kunis will star in Sam Raimi’s upcoming feature, Oz, the Great and Powerful.
The movie is a prequel to the 1939 classic, The Wizard of Oz. Sam Raimi’s unique vision features The Wizard (Franco) as a fast-talking snake oil salesman and illusionist. He runs away from a traveling circus and arrives in Oz via hot air balloon. Once in Oz, he must battle against magic and the sisters who are fighting for control of the land.
Theodora (Kunis), the youngest of the three witches, is a good witch along with her sister, Glenda. After Franco’s character rejects her sexual advances, she becomes enraged and joins forces with her evil sisters.
Oz, the Great and Powerful will be penned by Rabbit Hole screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire and produced by Joe Roth (Alice In Wonderland). Some other actors being considered to star in the film include Olivia Wilde, Amy Adams, Kate Beckinsale, Keira Knightly and Rebecca Hall.
Both Robert Downey Jr. and Johnny Depp were offered the lead role before Franco was considered.
Franco and Kunis previously worked together in 2007’s The Hills and 2010’s Date Night.
