The Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company (HGJTC), Toronto’s one and only professional theatre company established to celebrate and illustrate Jewish culture, announced its lineup for the 2011-2012 season.

In September, Mandy Patinkin will bring his acclaimed Broadway concert, Mamaloshen (Mother Tongue) to the Toronto stage. The show consists of the Tony- and Emmy Award-winning actor, singing an eclectic collection of traditional and contemporary songs entirely in Yiddish. The New York Times stated that with Mamaloshen, Patinkin “seeks to recapture and honour a tradition that many don't realize is a direct forerunner of Broadway musical comedy."

The fifth season will also include the Conversations on the Green series, one-on-one conversations with notable celebrities hosted by Ralph Benmergui. Celebs and newsmakers participating in the series include: Eugene Levy, businessman/politician Paul Godfrey, Stephen Lewis and Marion Ross, best known for her role as Marion Cunningham in the iconic Happy Days.

HGJTC will end the exciting season with a presentation of Neil Simon’s Lost in Yonkers, starring Marion Ross. Set in 1942, the play focuses on two brothers, Jay and Arty, forced to live with their austere grandmother. It won the 1991 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and four Tony Awards, including Best Play.

Founded in 2006, HGJTC’s mandate “is to illuminate humanity through a Jewish perspective, by inviting artists and audiences to participate in live theatre, the meeting place of all the arts.”
