Paula Abdul to Join Simon Cowell on 'X Factor'

Paula Abdul has closed a deal that will reunite her with Simon Cowell on the U.S. version of his hit U.K. singing competition The X Factor, according to The Hollywood Reporter. However, Fox has yet to make an official announcement.

But if it is in fact true, Abdul will be joining Cowell, Cheryl Cole -- a singer who’s a popular judge on the U.K. version of the reality show -- and producer Antonio “L.A.” Reid. The TV show starts taping today and will premiere on Fox sometime in September.

Cowell and Abdul worked side-by-side for nearly a decade as two of the original judges on the mega hit singing competition America Idol. After she left Idol in 2009, Abdul became the lead judge and executive producer of Live to Dance. The short-lived show premiered on CBS to strong ratings. But the ratings eventually dwindled, leading the reality show to get canceled.

Cowell has stated in multiple interviews that he would love to work with Abdul again. "I missed her the second she left [Idol]," Cowell told Deadline.com. "Always loved working with her, even though she can be a pain."

With Abdul and Cowell as judges, The X Factor is bound to attract American Idol fans and ensure that the show pulls in impressive ratings.
