Bette Midler is Returning to TV
Bette to star in HBO show about Phil Spector.
Bette Midler has nabbed a role in HBO Films’ telefilm about Phil Spector, starring Al Pacino as the troubled music producer. The film centres around the relationship between Spector and Midler’s character, reports suggest.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Midler will play defense attorney Linda Kenney Baden, one of the attorneys who represents Spector. It’s been 10 years since Midler last acted on the small tube (she starred in the short-lived CBS sitcom Bette from 2000 to 2001, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination).
She’s been keeping busy as a producer on the Broadway production of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, the Musical. The show had its North American premiere in Toronto.
Midler isn’t the only new addition to the telefilm Jeffrey Tambor (There’s Something About Mary, Arrested Development) will also be joining the telefilm as an attorney, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Emmy-nominated actor stars in the upcoming movie For The Love of Money, which tells the story of an Israeli immigrant.
The HBO telefilm about Spector will be written and directed by David Mamet, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter behind Wag the Dog. Barry Levinson (Sleepers, Rain Man) will be involved with the film as an executive producer.
