'Twitter Saved My Album'
Weird Al says that his new album, Alpocalypse, would not have been released without Twitter.
Two months ago we covered the story of “Weird Al” Yankovic’s quest to parody Lady Gaga’s hit “Born This Way”.
After believing that he found that one “big idea” for his new album, recording the parody and sending it to Gaga’s record label, Yankovic was denied. He went to his blog and social media and shared the bad news with his fans. In less than 24 hours, social media had yet again flexed her muscles as the parody was approved.
“Twitter saved my album,” Yankovic said in an interview with Wired.com. “It was just an amazing turn of events…. The by-product was that people found I was doing the song and doing an album.”
The album, Alpocalypse, comes out on Tuesday and includes another Gaga parody, “Polka Face” and several other parodies of famous hits.
