Darren Aronofsky Teams up with Michael Chabon
The "Black Swan" director is set to direct a TV project that's set during World War II.
There’s no denying that Darren Aronofsky -- the Oscar nominee behind movies such as Requiem For a Dream, The Wrestler and Black Swan -- has made a name for himself on the big screen. It looks like he’s hoping to do the same on the small tube Deadline Hollywood reports that Aronofsky is teaming up with married writers Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman for a TV project called Hobgoblin.
According to Deadline, the series is set during World War II and focuses on a group of magicians and con men who try to defeat Hitler. Aronofsky will reportedly direct the potential pilot, and executive produce alongside Chabon (the bestselling author of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay) and Waldman (author of Love and Other Impossible Pursuits).
It’s shaping up to be a busy year for Aronofsky. As we reported earlier this month, the Black Swan director is reportedly shopping around Noah, an edgy take on Noah’s Ark.
Hobgoblin might be Chabon’s first TV project, but the author has been involved with projects for the silver screen for many years. Chabon’s critically-acclaimed novel Wonder Boys was adapted into a movie back in 2000. The Oscar-winning film starred Michael Douglas, Toby Maguire and Robert Downey Jr. Another one of his novels, The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, was also transformed into a feature film. Similarly, Waldman’s Love and Other Impossible Pursuits was adapted into a film (The Other Woman). It starred Natalie Portman, Lisa Kudrow and Scott Cohen.
