James Franco Confronts Rumors About His Sexual Orientation
James Franco predicts that another wave of “gay rumors” will arise with the upcoming release of the fourth film in which he plays a gay character.
In the upcoming The Broken Tower (incidentally written, directed, and starring the actor) Franco portrays American poet Hart Crane. Crane was by and large homosexual, and jumped from the steamship SS Orizaba, committing suicide at the age of 32.
Thus far, Franco has played bisexual James Dean in the eponymous 2001 film, homosexual Scott Smith in Milk, and gay poet Allen Ginsberg in Howl.
“Some more great rumors will be coming up. I have a film coming that I directed about the poet Hart Crane, and I give a blowjob in that movie,” Franco recently divulged in an interview with Playboy.
Evidently, folks have been questioning Franco’s sexual orientation for years, as he further elaborated in the Playboy interview.
“I had a close friend in school, and there were rumors that we were gay. These rumors were started by, who knows--People who were jealous, people who had been picked on, girls who had been picked on. So they started these rumors. I like it now that people said I was gay. It’s kind of cool.”
The Broken Tower will be released some time in late 2011.
