Lea Michele Won’t Be Returning for 'Glee's' Season 4
Season 3 will be the last one for Michele and two other "Glee" regulars.
If you love watching Rachel Berry and all of her shenanigans on Glee, you only have one more season to do so. Ryan Murphy, Glee’s creator and executive producer, revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Lea Michele (who plays Rachel) will not be returning for Season 4 of the hit Fox TV show.
Michele isn’t the only regular cast member who’s leaving the show following the upcoming third season; Chris Colfer (who won his first Golden Globe this year for playing Kurt Hummel) and Canadian Cory Monteith (who plays Finn) are also leaving the series after Season 3.
"You can keep them on the show for six years and people will criticize you for not being realistic, or you can be really true to life and say when they started the show they were very clearly sophomores and they should graduate at the end of their senior year,” Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter.
The news didn’t come as a surprise to Michele. She tweeted: “We always knew we'd graduate in real time. It's all part of the plan and it's all good! It's going to make Season 3 amazing!!!”
“We’ve never done anything by the book,” Murphy told THR. “We made that decision and I involved Chris and Lea and they thought that was a good idea. They both trust the writing and trust me and felt that it would be great to have an open and closed experience for them to go out while they were on top.”
Murphy also revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that there will be more characters leaving than staying once the upcoming third season wraps up.
