Amy Winehouse to Have Jewish Funeral Within 24 Hours
Amy Winehouse will be buried within 24 hours of being released from the medical examiner.
Amy Winehouse shrine outside her homeReports released early this morning suggest that Amy Winehouse will be buried under Jewish law within 24 hours after her body is released from an autopsy.
Winehouse was discovered dead on Saturday, July 23rd in her London flat. The singer was born to Mitch and Janis Winehouse, a jazz musician/cab driver and pharmacist respectively. Winehouse was raised with Jewish values, and often wore a Star of David around her neck.
According to Jewish Law, the body of the deceased has to be buried as soon as possible, allowing less than a day for family members and friends to arrange the funeral and Shiva services. The Hollywood Reporter reported that after the autopsy is performed, the body will be released to the Winehouse family for immediate burial, which could happen as early as today.
Judaism traditionally does not permit autopsies, but due to the circumstances of Winehouse’s death, an exception has been granted. The results from the test will likely not be available for a few weeks.
Police sources stated that there were no signs of drugs in Winehouse’s apartment. Additionally, she had undergone a medical exam on Friday evening, and apparently showed no signs of ill health.
Fans of the late singer have created an elaborate shrine outside her London home, leaving items such as flowers, alcohol, and tobacco.
