Bieber and DeadMau5 top Toronto Tweets
The tbk Creative Group releases study saying Torontonians are positive, happy, and love pop culture.
A recent study, led by web design and social media agency The tbk Creative group, found that Torontonians are generally positive in their tweets and enjoy Justin Bieber and Deadmau5 (Niagara Fall’s Joel Zimmerman).
The tbk Creative group took a look at tweets that either had the word ‘Toronto’ or hashtag (#) ‘Toronto’ between October 7th and November 5th. The firm was surprised by it’s findings.
“Overall, Toronto is a very positive city. A lot of people might not believe that’s the case,” Andrew Schiestel, senior partner at the firm stated. “Toronto can get a bad rap for not being a loving city, but you can check that off.”
Other than analyzing Toronto’s interests in pop culture, the firm also observed words that were tweeted often.
“Good” was the adjective used most often, six times more often than “bad”. “Happy came up seven times more than “sad”, and “Win” eleven times more than “lose”.
Schiestel, based in London, ON, found that Toronto had a greater infatuation with popular culture than his hometown. In London, local politicians topped the list of Twitter handles mentioned, while in Toronto many tweets included celebrities.
Justin Bieber topped the list, with his fan club ‘Toronto Buyout” in third. “Toronto Buyout” encourages Bieber fans to literally “buy out” all of the singers CD’s from stores and donate them to charity.
Second on the list was Deadmau5, best known for the huge mouse head he wears and his ability to improv original tracks at shows.
Movember was the most tweeted charity, which is not surprising considering the month chosen for analysis.
