Top 20 Under 40- Sean Wainsteim
Age: 36
Sean Wainsteim, music video and short film director extraordinaire, lands a spot on this years Top 20 Under 40 for his creativity, unique vision, innovation, and extremely sharp wit.
This is my second time working with him for an article, and like he says, he’s a lot funnier through e-mails than in person. Hilariously, I agree.
As you may know from my previous article, Wainsteim won director of the year (2011) at the MMVA’s but that’s not the only reason he made our list! The eclectic director was also a contender in the final five TIFF Talent Lab, and he’s directed two TV series in the past few years. His earliest, in 2008, called the The Raw Side Of… was a TV-documentary, described on the Liz Mars Productions website,
“Eight-part documentary series gets to the very core of an artist’s existence through uncensored conversations and unbridled access to musicians surviving in a business that kills thousands of dreams a day. Welcome to the raw side.” (www.lizmars.com)
His more recent TV series entitled “Canadian Made” took off in 2011, and there is also a television series in-development for the History channel. Sean will be breaking the doors into feature films and network television in the near future.
Shalom Life is no stranger to Wainsteim’s fast wit and humorous personality, and when asked about his favourite things to do when he has free-time, he says “, “run a full system diagnostic to determine the malfunction cause. If a minor sub-routine isn't operating at full capacity I can usually apply corrections and return to 100% operational levels. If an extremity is damaged I may have to return to the specific manufacturer for adjustments or a replacement part. However, since I'm a highly advanced unit that was subjected to extensive laboratory tests, it is extremely rare to find myself ‘not working’.”
Wainsteim says he’s living his dreams through his work, and when asked about the progress on his bucket list, he tells us that he continues to fulfill his dreams everyday and the list continues to change.
