Matisyahu Announces New Album and Tour
New song, “Sunshine” can be downloaded for free for 48 hours
Reggae artist Matisyahu announced that he will release his fourth studio album, “Spark Seeker” on July 17.
He also unveiled the first-leg schedule of his upcoming North American tour, co-headlined by the Dirty Heads. The tour will kick off June 1 in Kansas City.
Spark Seeker was produced by Kool Kojak (Nicki Minaj, Travis Barker and Ke$ha).
The 13-track album was recorded in Los Angeles, New York and Israel, according to a press release.
It mixes “ancient traditional sounds with futuristic electro beats, rapping with singing, and songs of the spirit with songs of the body.”
In a statement, Matisyahu said, “this is definitely pushing the boundaries of what I've done before... It's a new kind of record for me.”
Former Bad Boy Records rapper Shyne, who spent nine years in prison before moving to Israel and becoming an Orthodox Jew, reportedly appears on two album tracks, "Buffalo Soldier" and "King Crown of Judah."
“Things are not as black and white as we would like to think,” Matisyahu said while describing the blend of music in the album. “Not everything can be oversimplified.”
On Tuesday, Matisyahu revealed the first new song of the album titled, “Sunshine.” He also tweeted that for 48 hours only, the song can be downloaded for free from his website, matisyahuworld.com.
