The Avengers Sequel Coming Soon

Surprise. Surprise. Disney has green lit a sequel to the ridiculously successful “The Avengers”. Joss Whedon’s film rendition of the classic Marvel story has raked it over $700 million at the global box office in just two weeks. Was it really a possibility not to see a sequel in the works?

Disney chief executive, Bob Iger, made the official announcement on Tuesday. Iger also revealed that the studio’s first quarter earnings in 2012 dropped a substantial 12% to $1.2 billion. John Carter is mostly to blame for this.

During the same announcement, Iger confirmed that Iron Man 3, Thor 2, and Captain America 2 are in the works. The first two are set to be released in 2012, while the latter is scheduled for 2014.

An expected release date for The Avengers sequel has not been set.
