Fifty Shades of Grey Casting Choices- Who Will Play Christian & Ana?

Are Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev really the best choices to play Christian and Anastasia?

Fifty Shades of Grey Casting Choices- Who Will Play Christian & Ana?

If I didn’t know better, I would think ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ was the first erotica novel to ever be published. The book is being discussed by doctors, educators, mothers, and teens, and has been labeled “Mommy Porn”. It has been banned from public libraries and schools. It has become the new ‘Twilight’ in terms of popularity, only with the sensual added twist of some S&M thrown in. In fact, ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ is based upon Bella and Edward, and fits in the category Twihards lovingly call ‘fan fiction’.

Well, this little piece of fan fiction has created international debate and changed the sex lives of women, men, parents, and grandparents alike. Millions of people worldwide have brought Christian and Ana’s sexual encounters into their own bedrooms, and lived out fantasies they’ve only dreamed of up until this point.

So which two actors should be given the huge responsibility of filling Christian and Ana’s shoes in the soon to be made film version of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey?” This could be one of the hardest casting decisions Hollywood has made in quite some time. It’s always difficult to cast characters based on a popular book for fear of existing fans claiming “That’s not how I pictured him at all”, but now with the added element that these characters have become the centerpiece of millions of bedroom role plays, it’s essential the actors live up to expectation.

The two primary contenders up until this point have been ‘Vampire Diaries’ stars Ian Somerhalder and real-life girlfriend, Nina Dobrev. But even Dobrev thinks it’s a bad idea.

“I don’t know if it’s a good idea,” Dobrev began. “I think it’s best for any of the actors on the Vampire Diaries to kind of do their own things… and create new characters… if it’s the same people, the fans will always see me as Elena and they’ll see him (Somerhalder) as Damon if we do a film together.”

I’m not sure if I agree with her reasoning, but I agree that these two are not right for the role. I have to admit casting for this film (even if imaginary) is quite difficult. Ana is quite young, and unfortunately not many known talented actresses remain in that age bracket.

So, assuming Ian Somerhalder gets the job… which I assume he will, who should play Ana? I would rather see unknown actors bring the characters to life, but that’s unlikely.

ANA: FLORA CROSS

Flora Cross is young, vulnerable, and shy-looking, BUT also a very versatile and strong actor capable of achieving the complex Ana Steele.

Who do you think should play Christian and Ana in EL James’ ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’?
