'Justice League’ Movie is Back On, Casting Begins
With the success of Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’, DC Comics has decided to release their own superhero crossover movie.
Many of you probably remember in 2008 when DC Comics and Warner Brothers announced the upcoming release of a “Justice League” movie. The film was set to be directed by “Mad Max’s” George Miller, and casting was already in the works with Adam Brody as The Flash, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, and Armie Hammer as Batman. Well, that obviously never came to be… but now with the incredible success of Marvel’s “The Avengers”, DC and Warner have once again confirmed the production of “Justice League” with “Gangster Squad” writer, Will Beall, set to pen the script.
Variety reports that Beall was hired while Marvel was assembling “The Avengers”, “in anticipation of-rather than a reaction to-the box office success”.
Although Beall was hired months ago, a script hasn’t been submitted yet. Beall is quite a busy man though, having recently been hired by Warner Brothers to write the scripts for the “Lethal Weapon” reboot and the “Logan’s Run” remake.
Additionally, it seems the folks at Warner and DC are following the same model as Marvel’s “Avengers”. Michael Goldenberg was recently hired to write the “Wonder Woman” feature film, while Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green are working on “The Flash”.
So who will play all the “Justice League” superheroes and which ones will be included?
Christian Bale has expressed interest in reprising his role as Batman after the next “Dark Knight” installment is released. Henry Cavill stars as Superman in 2013’s “Man of Steel”, so he’s an obvious choice for the “Justice League”. Since “Wonder Women” and “The Flash” are in the making, I assume those heroes will be included, but who should play them?
Batman, Superman, Wonder Women, and The Flash were 4 of the original 7- the other 3 being Green Lantern, Aquaman, and the Martian Manhunter. Considering the “Green Lantern” film’s lack of success, I assume DC will pull the same trick Marvel did with ignoring the previous two “Hulk” films and re-casting the role altogether.
Dozens of heroes joined the “Justice League” roster over the years including Green Arrow, Captain Marvel, the Atom, Hawkman, Black Canary, Hawkgirl, Plastic Man, Firestorm, Red Tornado, and Zatanna. Will any of these characters be included?
Too many questions and not enough answers. I guess we have to wait and see… but in the meantime, who do you think the new “Justice League” should be comprised of and which actors should play those roles?
