Ilona and Nathaniel

The Bachelor 2012: Tall, Dark, and Jewish is unfortunately coming to an end. Only one more set of dates before our winner is announced!

After the incredibly difficult decision of narrowing the Top 6 down to 3, Nathaniel had to make yet another challenging choice; which lucky ladies will be in the top 2?

Over the past couple weeks, Nathaniel joined the Top 3 ladies for enjoyable activity dates; rock climbing with Tania, ping pong with Ilona, and bowling with Mel. He had an unforgettable time with all three, but after careful consideration, one girl was sadly eliminated.

With the help of matchmaker, Alison Green, Nathaniel has chosen to go on his final two dates with… (drum roll)…

Ilona and Mel!

Congrats girls. One of you will soon be heading to Israel for a once-in-a-lifetime ‘get-to-know-you’ trip with our Bachelor.

Shalom Life, UJA’s Community Connect, and El Al Airlines are happy to share with you Nathaniel and Ilona’s thoughts from their exciting ping pong date at Spin in Toronto.

Check back in tomorrow for anecdotes from Mel and Nathaniel’s stimulating bowling date!

Ilona:

My second date with Nathaniel was at a really swanky ping-pong social club! We started the evening off with cocktails and catching-up on what each of us had been up to since our first date. We kibitzed while we shared some delicious authentic tapas and waited for an available ping-pong table. We cracked up observing a few different matches with ping-pong pros and their opponents who could definitely use some more practice or training in the sport! There are some very serious players here in Toronto! After watching a few games, Nathaniel and I were pumped up for our own match except that we were both a little rusty on remembering the rules of the game! We asked our server who promised to provide us with their ‘big rule book’ but she never came back with it, so Nathaniel and I made up our own rules! Nathaniel had some ping-pong skills from playing tennis in his youth and appeared to have a natural aptitude for this sport! Once again, Nathaniel proved to be a total gentleman. He coached me on serving and made it easy because he was totally patient, encouraging and non-competitive. Even when I almost took his eye out a few times!! Nathaniel has an adorable playful side and great sense of humour. We played a few more rounds, shared a lot of laughter, enjoyed the great music and overall had a blast.

Nathaniel:

First question? What on earth is ping pong? Where I come from we play table tennis! Right? Tennis on a table, doesn’t that make more sense!

I was really unsure of what to expect of a table tennis venue, are we going to be walking into a gym? It turns out Spin is a classy and cool place, quite trendy and I was surprised to see some business people sweating it up in competition wearing suits! The place was dark with awesome funky music, and the furniture was quite eclectic. We decided to have a drink first before dinner.

The food here was amazing. No cutlery style and within a few minutes we were quite happy to have food all over our faces and sauces dripping down our hands!

We then got our game table. I felt like I was back in school doing gym rotation. I always wondered why it was a gym rotation and now I realized, after one hour of playing it felt like a work out! Ilona was totally like a professional! A few directed to my face but not on purpose! Too bad I only have one eyebrow now! Just kidding! The coolest thing is these guys who go around picking up the balls off the ground and placing them into your basket. We both like the no self-pickup required.

I had loads of fun with Ilona and we laughed for most of the night. It was great to let our silly sides come out. We learned a lot more about each other on our second date and the conversation flowed easily. Ilona is so kind-hearted and easy going. But watch out for her ping pong game face, she will pretend like she can’t play but she has some shots behind her!
