Nazi Death Camp Jigsaw Puzzle Available on Amazon
Customers are outraged that the Dachau puzzle is being sold through world retailer
There’s a common expression that goes something like, “If you can think of it, chances are it’s already available online.” Usually, those strange items you dream up are being sold in someone’s eBay store and shipped out of their grandmother’s basement… not on the world’s most popular online store, Amazon.
According to Agence-France-Press, many customers are outraged after discovering that Amazon has a Dachau concentration camp jigsaw puzzle available. To add a huge flame to the fire, the listing promotes it as being appropriate for children aged 8 and up.
Gerda Hasselfeldt, the head of a conservative political party in Germany, has written a letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Besos, sharing her disappointment and calling their choice to sell the puzzle “a slap in the face” for survivors and victims of Dachau and their families.
"The Dachau concentration camp is a place of remembrance for the suffering of countless people," Hasselfeldt wrote in the letter. "It cannot be in Amazon's interest to sell such a toy."
28,000 prisoners were killed in the Dachau concentration camp between 1933 and 1945. According to the U.S Holocaust Museum, Nazis imprisoned more than 180,000 people there.
According to the Huffington Post, this isn’t the first time Amazon has been called out for selling offensive products. Last year, a Change.org petition was started to ask Amazon to prevent the sale of whale and dolphin meat, and in 2010, the online retailer created a stir by selling a Kindle book titled ‘The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure’.
