Lena Dunham Endorses Obama, Supports Marriage Equality
The Girls' creator wants to "party at her sister's future wedding"
Dunham’s sister, Grace, co-stared in “Tiny Furniture” with her quirky sister, as well as their mother, Laurie Simmons. Clearly this family is close, showing that Dunham’s tweet comes from an extremely supportive standpoint on an issue she obviously feels very strongly about.
Dunham herself has openly said she has had numerous gay ex-boyfriends. In OUT Magazine last March, Dunham playfully shares her experiences with dating men who later came out as being gay. “It’s something I’m actually proud of. The best option is that people who are confused about their sexuality feel really comfortable with me. The worst option is that I turn them.”
Dunham has turned her real life experiences into plot points for “Girls.” In the first season, she has an awkward conversation with an ex-boyfriend that leads him to admit that he is gay and he found comfort in her character because she has a “handsome” quality. Dunham is not afraid to experiment with her show and push the boundaries, and she is definitely not shy about her beliefs or opinions on domestic matters, as clearly shown in her tweet.
Dunham's tweet was also posted on President Obama's official Tumblr.
