Spielberg Bounces Back From Oscars to Head Up Cannes Film Festival Jury
'Lincoln' director calls Cannes nod an “honour and privilege”
After watching Ang Lee named the winner of the Best Director award at the 2013 Oscars held at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday for his work on the hit film 'Life of Pi', director Steven Spielberg received some news that should have provided him with some much-needed solace.
Earlier this week it was announced that Spielberg, who was nominated for Best Director for his epic film, “Lincoln”, will head up the Cannes Film Festival jury this May, which has tried to bring the renowned director on board for several years.
Spielberg, who has presented several films at Cannes, called his selection an "honour and a privilege".
"My admiration for the steadfast mission of the Festival to champion the international language of movies is second to none," said Spielberg in a press statement. "For over six decades, Cannes has served as a platform for extraordinary films to be discovered and introduced to the world for the first time. “
And the love-fest continued in the statement, which referred to Sir Steven as “the equal of the very greatest Hollywood filmmakers.”
