Acclaimed celebrity deejay Adam Goldstein, 36, commonly known under his stage name DJ AM, was found dead in his SoHo apartment on Aug. 28.

Authorities informed Associated Press that a friend called saying he couldn’t get into Goldstein’s apartment. They broke down the door and found a crack pipe, prescription pills and the shirtless artist. The death was caused by an accidental overdose of anxiety medication, reports TMZ.com.

Goldstein was a recovering drug addict and was slated to debut his reality MTV show, Gone Too Far, in October, which would stage interventions with drug abusers.

The deejay was a longtime friend and collaborator with punk-rock band, Blink-182. Goldstein and the band’s drummer, Travis Barker, survived a 2008 South Carolina plane crash that killed four people.

“This is really hard for us on stage,” said Blink-182’s bassist Mark Hoppus to concert-goers during an Aug. 28th show in Hartford, Connecticut, “We are doing the very best to get through this show, but right now it’s very hard.” The band members dimmed the stage lights, bowed their heads and shed a few tears in memory of Goldstein.

Other celebrities such as celeb-blogger Perez Hilton and actor Ashton Kutcher have tweeted their respects.

Goldstein’s last personal tweet was made on Aug. 25th quoting lyrics from hip hop artist Grandmaster Flash’s song “New York New York,” which states, "New York, New York. Big city of dreams, but everything in New York ain’t always what it seems."
