"Hitler is an easy scapegoat," says Oliver Stone

Filmmaker Oliver Stone is making a new documentary series about Hitler and Stalin. The documentary, a 10-part series that will air on Showtime, is called The Secret History of America.

The Oscar-winning director has enraged quite a few people after speaking to reporters at the Television Critics Association in California. “Hitler is an easy scapegoat throughout history and it’s been used cheaply,” said Stone. “He’s the product of a series of actions. It’s cause and effect.”

“Stalin has a complete other story,” continued Stone. “Not to paint him as a hero, but to tell a more factual representation. He fought the German war machine more than any single person.”

According to Stone, he had to “walk in Stalin's shoes and Hitler's shoes to understand their point of view.”
