Schindler's List for Sale
A copy of the famous World War II document is worth millions.
Historic document sales specialist Gary Zimet is selling “arguably the most important World War II document.” A copy of the list compiled by Oskar Schindler and his accountant Itzhak Stern contains names, birthplaces and occupations of 801 men. It is worth $2.2 million.
Popularized in Steven Spielberg’s movie Schindler’s List, the original is dated April 18, 1945 and runs for 13 pages. Reportedly there were seven copies in total, but only four have been previously found. One is in the U.S. Holocaust museum, one in the German federal archives and two are in the Yad Vashem museum in Israel.
Zimet, owner of a collector’s website called MomentsInTime.com, won’t be auctioning off the list. Instead, he will vend it on a “first come, first serve” basis on behalf of the anonymous seller.
