Holocaust Museum Features Curious George
Curious GeorgePic: PBS KidsIllinois’ Holocaust Museum and Education Center has welcomed a new traveling exhibition with ties to a certain curious monkey.
The Wartime Escape: Margret and H.A. Rey's Journey from France explores the story of Margret and H.A. Rey, Curious George’s creators, and their escape during the Nazi invasion of Paris.
At least three generations of children have read stories about the little monkey, but few people know about the creators’ daring escape from the Nazi regime. It was in June 1940, when the Jewish couple stashed a few of their belongings in their knapsacks. They entered a five month journey that led them to the United States.
The Wartime Escape tells the story of the Reys' early creative collaborations and George’s connection to World War II.
The exhibit is schedule to be at the Skokie museum until June 20. For more information, visit www.ilholocaustmuseum.org.
