Drake’s Toronto Pop-up Store Sees Fans Sleeping on the Street For Shirts

Drake held simultaneous events on Thursday in Toronto, New York, and Los Angeles to promote the upcoming release of his new album, ‘Nothing Was The Same’. The three North American urban hubs became home to Drake pop-up shops were a number of lucky die-hard fans were gifted ‘Nothing Was The Same’ limited edition shirts in exchange for standing in a line with hundreds of like-minded fans.

In Drake’s hometown of Toronto, a small group of devoted fans slept on the street outside the pop-up location in order to ensure first dibs on merchandise in the morning.

Sarina Hamamgi, 18, was one of the fans that secured an overnight spot on Toronto’s Queen St.

“I’ve been following his career since Degrassi,” she told The Toronto Star, while holding her ‘Nothing Was The Same’ sweater.

“He really started from the bottom; I never thought he would become a rapper. I just love him,” she continued.

Inside the pop-up store, six different shirt options were presented on a simple white table, with Drake’s music playing in the background. While some fans like Hamamgi waited patiently overnight, others swarmed the temporary location as word spread, aided by Toronto transportation employees.

“The next stop is Ossington, where the Drake pop-up store is happening,” a streetcar driver announced. “Can someone get me a shirt, please?”

According to The Toronto Star, fans were pushing, shoving, and even offering cash bribes to people at the front of the line in order to bud in.

Excitement relating to the ‘Nothing Was The Same’ shirts began after Drake wore one to the MTV Video Music Awards last month and posted an image of a different shirt on Instagram last week.
