A Dutch man has been sentenced to two years in prison for assault, and for inciting hatred by producing clothing that have a very anti-Semitic slogan, reading ‘Destroy Zionism’.
A court in Hague has sentenced the 37-year-old man after discovering he was stocking T-shirts that display guns pointed towards Hasidic Jews, saying they are an insult to both the Jewish and Dutch communities.
Dutchnews.nl reports that the man also had other T-shirts in his possession, one that reads ‘Combat 18’ and one that reads ‘Whatever it takes’.
The man was cleared of charges in reference to those shirts.
Combat 18 is in reference to a neo-Nazi group in Britain, the digits 1 and 8, reportedly, referring to the letters A and H (Adolf Hitler).
Coincidentally, 18 is also the number in Jewish tradition that refers to ‘chai’ or life.
The man had denied knowing the meaning of the term, and could not be convicted because of a lack of evidence.
The man had over 40 shirts in his possession, which were seized after he attacked another man while intoxicated. In addition to being charged for having the anti-Semitic propaganda at his residence, he was also convicted with assault.
