Formerly the Board of Jewish Education, (BJE) - The Centre for Enhancement of Jewish Education (the Mercaz) UJA Federation's educational pillar, is dedicated to strengthening, enriching and promoting the quality of Jewish education in our schools.
The Mercaz serves more than 70 day schools, and supplementary programs, 1,700 educators and 17,000 students in the Greater Toronto Area. The Mercaz's role is to enhance the quality, quantity and accessibility of Jewish education. The Mercaz facilities widespread access to Jewish education through tuition subsidies provided by the UJA Federation campaign. The Mercaz coordinates inter-school activities that support communal cohesion with respect for ideological diversity. The Mercaz partners with York University to offer Mercaz I.T., a distance learning program
