Life-long animal lover, Andrew Kirschner, has dedicated over 25 years to advocating for animals, children, human health, and environmental protection.

Inspired by his rescue miniature white Schnauzer Pretzel, who sadly passed away last month, Kirschner founded Animal Rescue Bar– a vegan, non-GMO, gluten-free nutrition bar that encourages people to eat plant-based foods, be kind to animals, and raises much-needed funds for animal advocacy and rescue initiatives and organizations.

Kirschner recently sat down with us to discuss his love for all animals, the concept behind Animal Rescue Bar, and the importance of speaking for animals that don’t have a voice.

ASHLEY BAYLEN (AB): What was the motivation behind Animal Rescue Bars?

ANDREW KIRSCHNER (AK): In 1993, I had the honor to attend the opening of the United States Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. At the ceremony, Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel reminded the audience that we must never again remain silent in the face of senseless torment and killing. Throughout my life, I have applied that guiding principle to people and animals. As I spent time with my beloved miniature white Schnauzer for 14 years, I learned more and more about the similarities between the animals we eat, wear, and exploit, and those we choose to love. I decided to create a nutrition bar company to raise money to provide financial support to the organizations that work tirelessly to save all animals.

AB: Prior to founding Animal Rescue Bars, where was your career heading?

AK: I’ve been volunteering in my community for many years helping animals and children in need, promoting healthy living, and working to preserve our environment. My favorite days are volunteering at my local Boys and Girls Club where I have the unique opportunity to mentor children while teaching them how to show compassion for animals. I’m a college professor in my spare time (laughs).

AB: Can you tell us a little about the bars – who they’re intended for and which animal rescue organizations will be benefited by them?

AK: Our bars are delicious, healthy, plant-based, non-GMO, gluten-free, and eco-friendly. They contain organic ingredients and are made in the U.S.A. Our first flavor is called the Peanut Crunch Animal Rescue Bar and it has been flying off shelves. Our nutrition bars appeal to everyone, especially conscious consumers who enjoy great tasting snacks and making a positive impact in the lives of animals. Animal Rescue Bar donates 50% of our proceeds to non-profit and all volunteer organizations, including Mercy for Animals, South Florida Wildlife Center, Compassion Over Killing, The Pig Preserve, Primarily Primates, Triangle Chance for All, CJ Acres Animal Rescue Farm, and GREY2K USA Worldwide. These groups rescue, rehabilitate, release, and advocate for dogs, cats, horses, monkeys, hawks, owls, pelicans, cows, chickens, pigs, turkeys, and many other animals.
