Throughout his career in entertainment, William Shatner has become an American legend. Whether you know him as Captain of the USS Enterprise, an eccentric attorney, a tough-as-nails cop or his tenure as that guy who knows about saving money on airfare, he has made his mark in nearly every aspect of our media. Now the 80 year old icon is getting back to his roots in live theatre and hitting the road, coming to a city near you on a new US tour for his autobiographical one-man show, Shatner’s World, kicking off November 8, 2012.
In addition to his acting cred, Shatner is also an avid philanthropist who has found numerous creative and effective ways to give back to the community. From selling his kidney stone to benefit Habitat for Humanity, to founding therapeutic horse riding programs for disabled children in Israel, Shatner has devoted much of his life to charity. A love of horses dating back to his childhood in Montreal sparked his passion to play a pivotal role in multiple equestrian charity organizations, including reviving the Hollywood Charity Horse Show. Even the farm where he breeds his prize American Saddlebreds helps to benefit the Central Kentucky Riding For Hope “Horses For Heroes” program. His profound affection for the animals is quite clear as he reflects on the spiritual bond between humans and horses, recalling the inspirational tale of how horse riding motivated him to share this form of divine healing with the world.
Truly a man who never sits still, Shatner has contributed to nearly every major field of entertainment. A man littered with “did-you-know” facts about his life and career, he is a published author, recording artist, director, and musician who exhibits no signs of slowing down. In addition to his plans for an upcoming podcast, he admits to having a hush-hush upcoming musical project that I know all of his fans are already eager to devour.
With the poetic ease of a professional having worked in the industry for decades, Shatner opens up about his philanthropy work, getting intimate with his audience in Shatner’s World, and how he stays motivated to continue tackling new projects.
