Facebook Charges $100 to Message Mark Zuckerberg’s Inbox
Would you pay $100 to ensure your message wasn’t filtered?
One of the countless changes Facebook has made over the last year included an introduction to two private inboxes: your primary inbox that holds messages from your friends, and the “other” mailbox that houses the private messages from people you don’t know. It was created as a sort of spam filter, but unfortunately many people never check it, and therefore long-lost friends or potential business leads are often lost.
In December, Facebook announced its intention to test paid messages, essentially allowing users to contact people they have never spoken with (at least on the social network) for a set fee. A specific dollar amount was not mentioned, and the service was forgotten about until now.
On Thursday, Mashable discovered that Facebook has implemented a $100 charge to send a message to Mark Zuckerberg. For the $100, they promise that your personal message will land in his inbox instead of the dreaded “other” box. After a little investigation, apparently it’s also $100 to message Facebook COO Sheryl Sandburg , CFO David Ebersman, and several other high-profile members.
“We are testing some extreme price points to see what works to filter spam,” a Facebook representative told CNNMoney.
