Interbrand Best Global Brands 2013 List

Since 2001, Interbrand has released its annual world's most valuable brands list and for those twelve years, Coca-Cola, everyone's favourite soft drink conglomerate, has remained at the top of the list.

But times are changing, and, according to this year's list, it seems companies that allow us to live our very hightech geared lifestyles - tablets, smartphones, internet and all - are now the most successful and profitable.

For its Best Global Brands 2013 list, Interbrand has confirmed that Apple is now the top seed, with an estimated value of $98.4 billion. Coca-Cola has fallen to third spot, with Google, who recently celebrated its 15th birthday, taking second spot with an estimated value of $93.3 billion.

Mazel tov to Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

"For revolutionizing the way we work, play, and communicate — and for mastering the ability to surprise and delight — Apple has set a high bar for aesthetics, simplicity, and ease of use that all other tech brands are now expected to match, and that Apple itself is expected to continually exceed," said an official statement from Interbrand on its decision.

In regards to Google, Interbrand had this to say:

"The company remains one of the world’s best places to work, with employees enjoying a range of perks, programs to help them do their jobs better, and encouragement to explore innovative ideas. Though some are disappointed to see an end to Google Reader and iGoogle, recent acquisitions such as Channel Intelligence, an e-commerce optimization site, promise to bolster Google Shopping and bring the company closer to direct competition with Amazon. With ad spending as a percentage of revenue now almost on par with rival technology companies, Google continues to work hard on gaining market share in areas beyond search."

Following the top three, IBM, Microsoft, GE, McDonald's, Samsung, Intel and Toyota make up the rest of the top ten. With half of the top ten involved in someway or another in gadgets/tablets and the high tech field, it certainly displays the influence the Internet has had on today's market.

The news of Apple and Google defeating Coca-Cola shouldn't be too surprising; while you may enjoy a Coke with every meal, that's usually a maximum of three times a day. It's likely you Google on your iPhone considerably more than that.
