Obama Says Facebook Isn't Cool Anymore
After sitting down with young adults aged 18-34, the U.S. President asserted that once the budding social media giant is no longer the most popular network around
Sorry, Mark.
Earlier this week, U.S. President Barack Obama sat down with various young adults to discuss the US Affordable Care Act, specifically, how he can get the 18-34 demographic to sign for coverage.
The venue was a local coffee shop, where Atlantic writer Robnison Meyer happened to be within earshot of the President's conversation. Meyer later retold what he heard, adding that he thoroughly enjoyed hearing the President talk tech.
Obama even mentioned Snapchat, according to Meyer. Instagram was brought up as well.
But Meyer's favourite part of the evening had to be when the President make an insightful comment. "It seems like they don't use Facebook anymore."
Whereas Meyer couldn't be 100% sure who Obama is referring to, it's pretty safe to say, given the nature and context of the meeting, and also, the 18-34 year-old's in attendance, that he was most likely referring to them.
In any event, it sure does make the U.S. President seem pretty hip. It also somewhat confirms that Facebook is no longer the 'it' social media platform it once was. No wonder Zucks made a $3 billion offer to Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel, which, as we all know, he turned down.
Despite the recent negative press, the app continues to thrive amongst younger markets.
