Qoros' New Electric Bicycle is Pretty Rad

We love it when a company can take a fairly mundane and well-established product and turn it into something cool. So we immediately liked the eye-catching new eBIQE concept of Chinese-Israeli company Qoros, unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. This electric bicycle kind of looks like a motorbike and is one of the most advanced two-wheelers in the world.

After charging the bike from any regular electric outlet for 80 minutes, the combined battery and pedal powered-engine can run for approx. 120 kilometers and reach speeds of up to 65 km/h (40 m/h), making it faster than most electric bicycles. The bike can go from 0 to 25 km/h (15.5 m/h) in just two seconds, so the rider is bound to be the first one out of the junction when the light turns green.

But the fun doesn’t stop there. The bike also boasts a 5-inch touch screen display, which connects to the QorosQloud service, offering navigation services, speedometers and real-time info about the bike’s status. The system also serves as a security measure, enabling riders to set a PIN for starting the bike or even use fingerprint identification.

The bike has three settings: Street, which limits the top speed to 25 km/h, to make sure it isn’t legally considered a motorcycle (in some countries), Eco, which is designed to maximize energy efficiency and Power, which gives the rider a top speed of 65 km/h.

Qoros unveiled the eBIQE (which was co-developed with European company Greyp Bikes) at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. Qoros is registered as a Chinese company, but it is partially owned by Israel Corporation.

While it is still a concept model, it is quite probable that the company will see it through the production stages, since it can easily be marketed as a premium electric bike. Boasting a €5,000 price tag ($6,925), it will not be something anyone can afford. However, when compared to other alternatives, and providing that it is technically a bicycle, it may easily find a niche in the electric urban vehicle market. I know I want one.
