Despite the fact that Michael Douglas is a staunch Democrat, he will be jumping ship to the GOP, to play Ronald Regan in Reykjavik. The film dramatizes the Reykjavik Summit, which was a meeting betwixt Regan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev in the Icelandic capital city from October 11th to 12th 1986.

The impetus of the summit had essentially been peace negotiations between the Cold War super-powers, however, at the last moment no concrete agreement could be made, and the summit ended. The Reykjavik Summit did demonstrate to both nations, the concessions the other was willing to make, and paved the way for the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty) signed in December 1987, which eliminated both nuclear and ground-launched cruise and ballistic missiles with intermediate ranges.

Ridley Scott is producing the film, and Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) is in negotiations to direct. Apparently the creative team is now on a quest to cast for Gorbachev.

Michael Douglas is presently filming the HBO Liberace biopic, Behind the Candelabra, with Matt Damon and directed by Steven Soderbergh. Douglas plays famed pianist.
