White Sox’ Kevin Youkilis Pleased by Game’s Time Change for Yom Kippur
Kevin Youkilis, the Chicago White Sox third baseman, has reportedly never played a game on Yom Kippur.
“The Youk” was disappointed to discover that a game against the Cleveland Indians had been scheduled for 7:10pm on September 25th. Luckily, a “significant number” of White Sox fans complained to the club over the game’s conflict with the Jewish holiday, leading them to reschedule for 1:10pm instead.
“I guess that means I can play,” Youkilis told the Chicago Tribune.
“I really didn’t know. I know there was talk that there was something about maybe changing it for the fans on that day. But it’s a good thing for the playoff stretch.”
This isn’t the first time Jewish baseball fans have encouraged teams to accommodate Yom Kippur. In 2009, the Yankees and Red Sox rescheduled a Sept. 27th game from evening to afternoon.
Youkilis was recently traded to the White Sox from the Red Sox.
