Hadas Yaron kissing her Best Actress award at the 69th annual Venice Film Festival

The 69th annual Venice Film Festival recently came to an end, and for the first time in its storied history, an Israeli actress took home one of the major pieces of hardware.

Hadas Yaron was named as the winner of Best Actress Award at the Festival, the icing on the cake in a year in which Israeli cinema took major strides.

Yaron, who continues to wait tables tables in a Dizengoff Street café, stars in “Fill the Void,” a film, directed by Rama Burshtein, and which is set in a Tel Aviv Chasidic community.

The talented young actress plays Shira, an 18-year-old who is about to enter into an arranged marriage, and must make the heart-wrenching decision whether or not to marry her brother-in-law, following the death of her sister.
