Mayim Bialik & PETA Want You to “Trash Meat and Go Vegan!” [VIDEO]
The ‘Big Bang Theory’ actress encourages households to go meat-free
Mayim Bialik, perhaps the antithesis of a 1950’s housewife, has transformed herself into one for the sake of animal welfare and encouraging a vegan lifestyle.
In a new PETA campaign, coinciding with one of Canada’s largest beef recalls in history, Bialik points out the potential risks of consuming meat including heart disease, strokes, diabetes, and… recalls.
The ‘Big Band Theory’ Emmy-nominated actress wears a traditional blue 50’s dress and apron, standing next to an open garbage can. Bialik fashions a yellow rubber globe and disgusted look her on her face, while she dangles a large piece steak over the open garbage, with the tag line, “It’s a no-brainer. Go Vegan!”.
The bottom of the poster reads “The only way to be sure that meat doesn’t poison your family is to throw it out. Protect your family (and animals) now by choosing vegan.”
The supporting campaign video features Bialik discussing her choice to become a vegan, and the positive benefits she’d experience thus far. Her children have been raised vegan as well.
“I think the most significant shift for me was I used to feel guilty,” Bialik says. “Even as a child, I felt very guilty about eating animals and never knew that there was something to do about it. And as I got older, it became clearer that there are things that I can do and choices I can make.”
Bialik emphasizes that you don’t need to eat weird foods if you become a vegan. She eats pasta, salads, Asian and Mediterranean foods. She also explains that PETA has wonderful information and can help “find the foods that already do not require meat and find the finds hat do not necessarily require dairy, or for which there are substitutes that you find palatable.”
