Judd Apatow's 'The Simpsons' Episode to be Produced After 22 Years [VIDEO]
The 'This is 40' director wrote a spec script for 'The Simpsons' in its first season
After two decades and a fair amount of success, the good folks at The Simpsons have finally decided to produce a script Judd Apatow wrote in 1989. The writer/director/producer revealed said tidbit to Conan O’Brian, on his hour-long online interview show, Serious Jibber-Jabber.
Apatow explained that he’d written a Simpsons episode 22-years ago.
“I was talking about the story that I wrote, which was Homer taking the family to a hypnotist show, and being put under to think that he was 10, and the hypnotist has a heart attack, and for the rest of the show, him and Bart are best friends, then they go on the run because Homer doesn’t want to be woken up, and have to have responsibility - He loves being a kid. And then I realize everything I’ve done for my whole career is basically that story.”
“I told that story publicly for the first time, and then I got a call from The Simpsons’, and they said ‘We’re going to shoot that episode next year’,” Apatow continued.
The 44-year-old stated that the script was the first thing that he’d done. Apatow apparently received $2200 for the aforesaid episode, and quipped that he could now retire.
Apatow’s latest foray into writing and directing will be, This is 40, starring Jason Segel, Paul Rudd, and Leslie Mann, among others. It is scheduled for release on December 21st, 2012.
