On Monday, an all-new Chanukah web series unlike any other launched. Bubala Please stars gangsters Jaquann and Luis, two “latke-making, dreidel-spinning, menorah-lighting gang-bangers.”
Bubala Please, directed by Jacob Salamon and written by Salamon, Jared Bauer, and Josh Cohen, tells the story of “two angry, misunderstood gangers [that] come to find out they’re both kinda Jewish. As their friendship develops, they decide to produce a variety show to share what it means to be a tough latke-making, dreidel spinning, menorah-lighting Jew.”
The first installment of the Bubala Please web series features Jaquann (Marcus Wayne) and Luis (Rick Mancia) making latkes and wearing adorable aprons (in their respective gang colors) featuring the slogans ‘Got Lakes?’ and ‘Kiss My Tuchus’.
After a brief introduction to the boys, featuring a quick montage of the former enemies bonding over their shared love for Judaism, while enjoying a game of dreidel on the dangerous streets of Los Angeles, Jaquann and Luis take us into the kitchen for the cooking portion of the episode.
Some of the best lines in the 2-minute episode are “O.J Simpson those bitches” (describing how to peel and shred the potatoes), “these niggas smell delicious”, and “all you need to do is add sour cream and a little apple sauce. Mazel Tov, mothafucka.”
Jacob Salamon’s creation is one-part hilarious, one-part stereotypical and offensive, and all parts mesmerizing. We are definitely looking forward to watching the new episodes as Chanukah approaches. Check it out below.
