Bob Dylan Ticket Stub Sells For 324 Times Original Price
A concert ticket from 1966 just sold on eBay for $1,134.99
In 1966, a 24-year old Bob Dylan played a show at the Ottawa YMCA Auditorium. A concert attendee decided to not only keep the ticket as a souvenir, but preserved its condition for the past 47 years. Deciding to finally let it go, the stub was listed on eBay, alongside a few other Dylan items, and recently fetched a whopping $1,134.99.
Dylan’s show on February 19, 1966 cost $3.50 at the time. He split the Saturday night event into two sets; the first one being acoustic, with the second one on electric guitar fronting Toronto-band, The Hawks. The Hawks went on to become The Band, and Bob Dylan went on to become, well, Bob Dylan.
The eBay listing describes the ticket stub as being in “amazing” shape and the rip cleared the perforation, which is extremely rare. In addition to the stub, the winner received a page of the Feb. 21 Ottawa Journal newspaper reviewing the show, and a 1986 Canadian mono copy of Dylan’s ‘Freewheelin’ album.
Many music fans save their concert tickets as a souvenir to remember the event. Most do not expect to make a profit later in life, nevermind 324 times the original price… especially considering the buyer didn’t even get the opportunity to enjoy the show in which the stub was issued.
This story may give modern-day tweens fodder for future guilt trips laid upon their parents: “Mom, spending $300 to see Bieber is a great investment. In 50 years, it’ll be worth $97,200”.
